Art Jamming as a form of Team Building

Art jamming – Art and jam? Yes. But not the kind of jam that’s edible. Art jamming is the recent trend that has taken over Singapore by storm, where little studios popping up all over our tiny island cater to provide studios for individuals to express their creativity through painting.

Art jamming is basically a free flow session of both paint and creativity onto canvas. For a certain amount (this varies between different studios), you are entitled to a canvas, paints, paintbrushes, and space to create your very own masterpiece.

Atop of unleashing your inner creativity onto a blank canvas, art jamming is meant to be therapeutic and is also said to calm nerves. While these individual benefits help relieve stress, art jamming can also be used for team building.

One might wonder how exactly art jamming relates to team building. But there is more than meets the eye. Art jamming allows for group painting onto separate canvases, however, the canvases are joined together, they make up an even bigger piece of art!

One way this can be done is to choose a common theme for the group. The art jamming session will then commence with individuals painting on their own canvases. With this comes the best of both worlds – individual time and space to express creativity, but at the same time, this activity fosters group cohesion and collaboration.

Planning for a theme within the group also makes a good opportunity for communication and for the group to come to an agreement upon a theme that they feel is reflective of themselves. This allows them to get to know one another better, making art jamming a great team bonding activity.

Another aspect of art jamming for a team building activity is that it makes for one at a leisurely pace. Where painting is involved, patience is present. Each art jamming session will last approximately three hours to ensure there is sufficient time for all to enjoy and paint.

So if you’re looking for something relaxing, but yet want to foster some sort of team-building within your workplace, social circle or any group activity, art jamming may just be the perfect activity for you.
