Art Jamming, one of the fun things to do, began over ten years ago and was coined by Betty Cheung. The act of positive, social painting inspires creativity and vitality in people who are not artists to participate in Art Jamming workshops (one of the most fun things to do in Singapore) or paint alongside another. Typically, more experienced or confident Paint Jammers work on projects started by other Art Jammers, while others can freely create their own artwork.

As one of the most interesting things to do in Singapore, art jamming is a genre of hobbies that don't require expert skills to execute. Participants often work together on one assignment or painting, typically with guidance from an instructor. Arts and crafts (one of the most fun things to do in Singapore) can promote the development of various skills such as creative thinking in team settings or it can also just be a way for someone to pass their time at home while relaxing.

Art Jamming is usually made with acrylic paint, but may also use watercolor and fluid art. Today, art jamming is one of the most fun activities in Singapore.

Types of Art Jamming

For a group activity, there are several ways in which a painting workshop can occur. Usually, you will paint on canvas, but other mediums are possible as well. Here are 4 popular types of art jams, which are the popular fun activities to do in Singapore.

3) Neon Art Jamming

A new trend in Singapore, neon jamming (one of the most fun things to do in Singapore) uses neon paint instead of regular ink or paint. What is different about the experience? One thing that separates this art form from others is the specially designed space with enhanced lighting to boost skills and creativity when creating a painting. The mixing of colors creates gradients not present in other art forms as well! This is definitely one of the things to do this weekend in Singapore.

4) Tote Bag Art Jamming

Fun Things To Do in Singapore - Art Jamming Singapore

Tote Bag Art Jamming is one of the most fun things to do in Singapore. So far, the projects created in jamming studios have all been painted on canvas. But acrylic paint can be used to paint on fabric as well, which means it's also successful for painting totes. Since watercolors won't last on an easily washed bag, they're not a good choice either. This is one of the things to do in town.

Background of Art Jamming

Art-jamming, a term coined by Betty Cheung, is the positive experience of social painting to inspire creativity and energy in people. Art jamming generally takes place on projects started by other artbreakers while those without an artistic background are encouraged to create their own work as well.

Today's art jamming Singapore is an inclusive activity for all levels of talent and ages. It can be attended for many reasons, including confidence-building or team-building exercises. Established as a corporate icebreaker or weekend family day out, the little bit of laughter you're missing will do wonders to lift your spirits.

Art Jamming Singapore is not limited to acrylic paint, it may also involve the use of watercolour or fluid art.

Types of Art Jamming Workshop

A painting workshop in Singapore could take place in many ways. Either you would be doing it on canvas with paint, or other types of materials are also possible. Here are 4 art jam ideas:

1) Individual Art Jamming

Art Jamming Singapore

In individual art jam Singapore, painters work simultaneously to create and collaboratively paint their canvases. There are many benefits for this form of personal creativity and painting including sharpening skills before starting with experimentation, as you can explore ideas based on visualization or simple doodling. This is an amazing painting workshop.

2) Group Art Jamming

Art Jamming Singapore

Another way of art jamming Singapore is group art jams. Group art jam is an art session that is difficult to produce because they require collaboration. While individual canvases are offered, each piece must add to the collective design determined by the group. Consensus is crucial in this situation to create a cohesive work of art. More often than not, the paintings created during these groups tend to be colorful and lively. You can create some amazing art jamming pictures.

3) Neon Art Jamming

Art Jamming Singapore
The Fun Empire

A new trend in Singapore, neon painting involves using fluorescent paint instead of ink or paint. There's one key difference though: Neon paintings take place in a specially-designed space with the illumination that gives artists skills to create their own designs. Mixing colors is another component that adds to creating the final product, and it helps us create gradients by combing some of the colors. This is one of the most popular ways for art jamming Singapore.

4) Tote Bag Art Jamming

However, other paint types like acrylic can be used to paint on fabric as well. Their versatility means they’ve been successfully applied to a variety of surfaces including cotton or linen cottons. Also, watercolors are not recommended for use with tote bags because they won't last for long due to fading and dissipation.

Acrylic Painting 101: How To Get The Colours You Want

The acrylic paints are expensive, so even when you for art jamming or doing it by yourself, the range of colours you may have are limited. Today, we will advise you on how to get the colours you want, that previously many have tried and yet still failed. Today we will use a Red Blue Yellow Colour Wheel to help us – From this, we can tell what colours we can possibly concoct by seeing the full range of colours. To be honest, even after reading this, not every colour is attainable; there will still be a minority that remains out of reach with the limited options given to you.

So for this colour, you would need red, blue, yellow, and white (later). It is important that these three colours are somewhat close to what the traditional primary colour looks like otherwise, you may get a whole other range of colour wheel. For example, if your blue looks more like a purple than a blue, you will produce a different kind of colour wheel already. It is not wrong per se, but it might not give you what you exactly want when you expect an orthodox purple from mixing red and blue.

For the Colour Wheel, there will be a total of 12 portions to paint, so place the red blue and yellow first in a wheel shape with equal gaps between them. After which, paint the mixture between the basic colours (for example) in between the red and blue portion of the Colour Wheel while still leaving one last gap in between. Then simply add a dash off red/blue to the purple to complete the colour sequence from red to blue (it is the same for yellow/red and yellow/blue.) In the colour wheel, there are is a warm range (reds and yellows) and a cool range (less striking).

Next, we are going to do an exercise with the contrast between warm and cool tones. This will also show you how to use complementary colours to bring down the contrast and saturation. Start off by drawing 5 rectangles side by side with each other. For this round, we will do blue on one end of the spectrum and orange in between. Simply add a bit each time and one of your rectangles will even be a nice brown colour. Once you add white to all these 5 colours, you can better see the contrast between the colours, as well as get your own handmade grey!

Now that we got the fundamental concepts of the colour wheel down, we can test ourselves. Print out a Swatch sheet, and using the same principles and method as earlier, attempt to replicate the colours on the swatch sheet. Once you think you are done matching a particular colour on the Swatch sheet, simply paste it down onto the circle and you can truly see the results. This whole Swatch matching process could easily take up to an hour if you are good.

There are no shortcuts to getting the colour you want unless someone provides you with the colour wheel as well as the manual of the particular colours on the swatch sheet. I apologise if this turned out to be click-bait, but painting the Colour Wheel can be a therapeutic art process. Most importantly have fun! If you still cannot get the colour you want, be creative and find another colour that will work. All the best on your art journey, we will keep posting more to help you guys out! 5 Simple Tips To Elevate Your Group Art Jamming Session!

I’ve had the opportunity to sit in during one of the group art jamming workshops and subsequently, I even got to paint with the acrylic paint. Not going to paint you a rosy picture here (yes, pun intended) as it certainly was not as simple as it looked! However, I have compiled 5 useful tips that would turn it into a pretty manageable session!

1. While sketching the final image on individual smaller canvases, offer to help with it!

Our facilitators would recommend you to use a pencil to lightly sketch the diagram you wish to paint on the grouped canvases aligned together. This really helps every team member who would later take one canvas (with the drawn design) to paint his section. On that occasion, only one team member was doing the rough sketch on all the individual canvases. Remember that you have to complete everything within 2.5 hours! Don’t focus too much on creating the perfect picture and hence only send your best member to do all the drawing. Instead, balance it out with a contribution from more of your team members who would add value to the whole experience! What’s more, by asking for their contribution, you show that you value what they can bring to the team. It also opens opportunities for colleagues to learn from each other.

2. You don’t need a lot of paint! Explore textures, opacity and different tones!

After your team is done with the sketch, your next step would be to paint. From my observation, most people would use all of colour A to mix with colour B! Now, this is not advisable because you might still want colour A and colour B to work with than just the resulting colour alone. Moreover, when your brush is dipped in too much paint, you are unable to achieve textures from the brushstrokes and lighter opacity from a less solid fill. By skipping out on these two elements, you could miss out on so many varieties to your canvas. Try starting out with less paint on your brush and proceed to coat more paint on your brush if you need to fill it up later! For even more ways to achieve different textures, check out the Unique Ways to Paint in Art Jamming (3M).

3. NO WATER needed on acrylic paint! But, using a scarce amount can achieve the thinned look!

Credits: E.H. Sherman

If you used watercolour before, it's probably second nature for you to dip your brush in water. The beauty of acrylic lies in it not needing any water at all! But, if you would still like to experiment with water to achieve a pseudo-watercolour look, just dip your brush lightly. You can actually thin the colour and achieve a different gradient look (compared to gradients from lighter to darker tones and vice versa). Be careful not to use an excess of water! It could ruin the canvas!

4. Paint alongside those whose canvases are going to be beside you and above or below you!

While you work on your individual parts, you are highly recommended to occasionally align your canvas with the other canvases. This helps to ensure that your final picture looks cohesive! Also, while you paint on your own, you may be creating your own tone of green, which doesn’t match the green of the next canvas your team is working on!

5. Have fun! Mingle with your friends and enjoy the process!

group art jamming

Last, of all, don’t forget to have fun! It is more about the journey and your experience than the final result! Nonetheless, if you do follow these tips, your end result should look rather presentable!

How To Make The Best Out Of Your Art Jamming Experience

I think it's no secret by now that Art Jamming is an incredibly therapeutic activity. After our professionally-trained facilitators have gone through all the procedures and instructions, participants are then given the opportunity to delve into their artistic side and paint on the canvas whatever they want. Here at The Fun Empire, we not only provide the canvases but also all the art materials required such as paintbrushes, tools, rags, and aprons. Even though we provide a non-judgemental environment where participants could simply relax and enjoy their session to the fullest, here are some ways we recommend in order to make the best out of our Art Jamming experience. As this would no doubt be a day for you and your teammates to reminiscence on, it's good to make sure everything goes smoothly on your team-bonding day out, and this is how you can play your part.

This not only applies to our Art Jamming workshops but other activities as well. It's common courtesy to arrive at the event on time and as scheduled. You don't want to keep everyone waiting. In order to avoid being late, arrive alongside your friends and colleagues and try not to come alone. If the event occurs right after a working day, that's even better as everyone could travel together, which is a great way to bond with each other. The Fun Empire employs a 15 minutes grace period. If some participants have not yet arrived, we would continue on the event as we have other clients to cater to. Being responsible and on time would contribute to a happier and unforgettable Art Jamming experience.

Even though we supply aprons to all participants, there are times when paint does get onto our clothes, which would be a huge complication. As you're dealing with acrylic paint, they're hard to come off simply with water, and could only be washed off in the washing machine. If you have to go somewhere after your Art Jamming session, it would be wise to wear black or dark-colored clothing so, in the event that paint does indeed get onto your clothing, it won't be easily visible.

I think that's quite self-explanatory. Our Art Jamming experience is all about having fun and bonding alongside your friends and colleagues. Use this opportunity out of the usual office environment to strike conversations with colleagues you're not close to and form new friendships. The environment is friendly and lively, so don't feel shy! Avoid criticizing and instead complement each other's works. It's all in the name of good fun, and thus you should liven up as a way to de-stress and clear the mind.

Self-Expression: Why The Arts Matters

"Art is pointless" I am pretty sure we have all heard this phrase many times. Living in a pragmatic country like Singapore, it's no surprise that at least at a point in our lives, we have been discouraged or dissuaded to pursue the arts, regardless be it as a pastime activity or educational subject. However, more and more recently, articles are published discussing the importance of an arts education for our children, and the negative aspects of a lack of creativity in the workplace. All these talks have pushed us to talk more about the societal value in art, and why it's crucial that we regard it more seriously.

One of the biggest lessons that people take from engaging in art is that they comprehend and embrace their own self-expression. Self-expression depicts one's personality and showcases his or her individual traits. While there are many ways that people could express themselves, art is by far the most effective and quickest way to get to know one another. Whether it be through painting canvases, dancing or acting, art provides a platform for people to freely communicate their ideas, thoughts, and opinions visually, thus showing the world their authentic spiritual and emotional self. This is the reason why preschools and kindergartens heavily influence children to participate more in the arts, as it allows the adults to better comprehend their characters and dispositions.

Self-expression is also the first step into boosting confidence and self-esteem, two highly-vital traits that everyone has to possess to succeed well in life. For example, our Art Jamming Workshop is conducted in a non-judgemental environment as we desire our clients to not only develop their artistic skills at their own pace but to also be more optimistic in showcasing their work in public, while surrounded by friends and loved ones. Possessing strong self-expression also enables us to learn more about ourselves, thus allowing us to reflect on our life and behavior, and to make changes and improve ourselves along the way.

You don't have to join our Art Jamming workshop to embark on a new self-empowered journey. Simply gather some art tools and canvas, and allow your imagination to go wild. No one is born or blessed with impeccable creative talent, so don't worry if you're afraid to let your hand and brain go into work. Take a step at a time, look at inspirational paintings for guidance, and soon you might find yourself unable to stop. Remember, everyone can draw. The one thing stopping you into doing so is yourself, so tackle that complication and delve into the world of art!

5 Easy Paintings For Beginners

Look, we know that not everyone is blessed with artistic talents of da Vinci or Bob Ross, so being intimidated by painting should come as no surprise at times. Whenever a painting appeals to us, and we would desire to emulate it, the thoughts of it being 'too difficult' and 'mine can't look as good' constantly fills our mind. Honestly, get rid of those negative thoughts and start believing in ourselves. No one is perfect, and art is subjective. What's great about our Art Jamming classes is that they're platforms for learning. It's targeted towards everyone, from the young to old, and from the beginners to the experts. Furthermore, it takes place in a non-judgemental environment where people learn from each other, instead of commenting and criticizing. As such, feel free to explore your creative side. If you require help along the way, our professionally-trained facilitators would be on the site to assist you.

Another thing about our Art Jamming classes is that we provide color guides and painting examples as a way to guide and inspire you. Assuming that you have zero knowledge about art, no worries as we have the materials which allow you to open your eyes to the artistic world.
