The basics
What is art jamming?
Art jamming is a freestyle painting session. You get a blank canvas, acrylic paints and brushes, and you paint whatever you like. There is no teacher grading you and no experience required.
Sessions run from 1 hour to 2.5 hours depending on the package. Everyone takes their artwork home the same day.
What’s included
- Canvas or tote bag per painter
- Acrylic paints, brushes and palettes
- Easels or tabletop stands
- Aprons for everyone
- Table covers and floor protection
- Setup, cleanup and take-home artwork

We set up
We arrive ahead of your start time, lay floor protection and set out every station.
You paint
At your own pace, with a facilitator on hand throughout. Usually 1 to 2.5 hours.
Take it home
Acrylics dry within the session. We clear the space completely and you keep the artwork.
Space and group sizes
For mobile sessions the honest answer is: less space than most people expect. A large meeting room takes about 20 painters and a function room about 50.
Group sizes run from a minimum of 5 painters up to 65 at each of our studios, and considerably larger at your own venue. Full detail on mobile art jamming.
Common questions
Does someone teach us what to paint?
No. Every session is facilitated but not taught: the facilitator sets up, explains how the paint behaves, demonstrates a technique if the group wants one, and answers questions while you work. Nobody sets a subject, and nobody is assessed.
What should I wear to an art jamming session?
Something you do not mind getting paint on. We provide aprons, but acrylic paint on clothing is difficult to remove once dry. Closed shoes are sensible.
What paints do you use?
Acrylics, with UV-reactive acrylics for neon sessions and fabric paints for tote bags. We use water-based acrylic paints, the standard for art jamming. They wash out of most fabrics while still wet but set permanently once dry, so every painter gets an apron and we suggest wearing clothes you would not mind marking. If your group needs specific product details for a safety or procurement check, ask and we will send them.
What happens if it rains?
Every session we run is indoors, so weather does not affect the painting itself.
Do you need a water point at the venue?
Yes. Every table fills a container of water for painting and rinsing brushes, so we need a water point at the venue.
