The premise
What is Art Heist?
A daring art heist has shaken the art world. Your team of artists has to track down the stolen masterpiece and return it to the museum before time runs out.
Art Heist runs two hours in two halves. The first hour is the escape-room trail: you work together with your team to solve riddles, codes, hidden objects and interactive challenges. The second hour is painting, and the artwork is themed to the storyline you just worked through, which is what makes it an art jamming session rather than an escape room with paint at the end.
How a session runs
Hour one: the heist
An online escape game played on your own phones, worked through as a team with facilitators guiding you. Everyone needs a smartphone with internet access and a web browser.
Hour two: the canvas
You paint the story. The artwork is themed to the heist you just solved, on a 20x20cm canvas, and it is yours to keep. No grading, no critique.
What’s included
- The online escape game and its facilitation
- One facilitator per 25 players
- A 20x20cm canvas per player
- Acrylic paints and brushes
- Aprons and table protection
- Your painting to take home

Mixed-department groups
Solving clues together cuts across reporting lines faster than an icebreaker does.
Team buildingGroups who want a through-line
The painting continues the story rather than switching to an unrelated activity halfway through.

Art Heist questions
What do we need to bring?
A smartphone with internet access and a web browser, one per participant or per small team. Everything for the painting hour is provided.
What actually happens in an Art Heist session?
Two hours in two halves. The first hour is an online escape game played on your phones, with facilitators guiding your team through the clues. The second hour is painting on a 20x20cm canvas, and the artwork ties back to the heist storyline rather than being a separate exercise.
Is it a competition between teams?
No. It is collaborative. The team works the puzzles together against the clock rather than against each other.
Do we need to be good at art, or good at puzzles?
Neither. The puzzles are guided by facilitators, and the painting phase is a normal art jamming session where nobody is graded.
How long is an Art Heist session?
Two hours: one hour solving the puzzles, then one hour painting.
What age is Art Heist for?
Art jamming is suitable for all ages, and we run sessions for young children through to seniors. Art Heist is the exception: it is for ages 13 and above, because the escape-game half needs independent reading and problem solving.
Can you run Art Heist at our office?
The escape game is played online on participants’ phones, so the first hour travels anywhere.
What do we take home?
Your own painting on a 20x20cm canvas, themed to the storyline you just solved your way through.
